This week's theme at BASE was Storytelling and Creative Writing. In third grade, we had the opportunity to express ourselves through a variety of different storytelling activities, including both written and verbal stories.
To start off, we participated in a Roll and Write Activity. To determine the different elements of our story including the setting, plot, and characters, we rolled dice. Then we took the number that we rolled and used our Roll and Write chart to figure out what story we would be writing. We then created either books or storyboards. Check out the Roll and Write chart below. This writing activity allowed for some really funky stories!
We also participated in some 3D building and drawing activities for creative writing week. First we constructed buildings such as a pyramid in Egypt or Gillette Stadium. Then we created post cards and addressed our postcards to someone we know. We wrote as if we were actually visiting the monuments we constructed.
Lastly, as a class we verbally told a few collaborative stories. First we chose a topic for a story. Then we sat in a circle, and each student added one sentence or fragment to the story. The stories tended to get a little crazy by the end, but it was a great way to get creative with our storytelling!
