Can you believe it's almost Thanksgiving?! This week we talked about Fall celebrations, such as Thanksgiving. We asked students if they celebrated any other holidays or events at home and a couple of our third graders mentioned Diwali. Diwali is a Hindu holiday, a festival of lights, that marks the beginning of a new fiscal year and celebrates the triumph of good over evil. It's celebrated with lanterns and colorful decorations, which we decided was a great way to spend this week at BASE!
Students made elephants with decorative, cultural cloths draped over them. Elephants are a symbol of strength and boldness and the kids were able to make their own three dimensional paper elephant with Ms. Kim!
With Ms. Bailey, the kids made Rangoli designs: symmetrical, circular patterns with lots of color! These designs are typically made of temporary materials, such as colored sand or natural objects, and adorn the floors in the entry ways of buildings.
Does your family celebrate any special fall holidays?
See everyone next week!
