| Happy Halloween! This week there was something in the water - or maybe the kids just snuck into the Halloween candy a little early... but we've had lots of energy and are READY for costumes, (more) candy and scares this weekend! Third graders started the week with a cooking "craft". We used a sheet of Rice Krispie treats and a skull cookie cutter to make sugar skull treats! The Day of the Dead celebrates loved ones that have passed away by decorating these small skulls, baking treats and creating altars to honor their memory. The results were colorful, sugary treats that each child got to decorate with colored frosting. We also made paper Day of the Dead skulls using our names. First we folded a piece of paper the long way, and then we wrote our names in cursive (nice and large) and cut around it (as if you were making a butterfly or snowflake). This created an abstract, symmetrical shape that we then used for the ribs of the skeletons. Add a little colored paper for decoration and viola! Hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween weekend! |
