This week's theme at BASE was Growth, Goals, and Dreams for the Future!
In third grade, students spent time reflecting on both short term and long term personal goals while creating an art project. Students used construction paper to build their own ice cream cones demonstrating their goals for the future in each scoop of ice cream. Some of those goals included traveling to foreign places, trying harder in school, going to college, and trying new things! So what's the scoop in third grade? Check out some of the students creative ice cream cones to find out!!
In addition, students engaged in a science experiment exploring the creation of rain! As a group, we discussed where rain comes from and how it is formed. We talked about the water cycle including evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. Students then made predictions as to what they believed might happen if a cloud becomes too heavy with water droplets as a result of evaporation. Check out their predictions below! Each student was a true scientist!!
During the experiment, students used shaving cream to simulate clouds and food coloring to simulate water droplets. The more water droplets that were put into the clouds, the heavier the clouds became. Eventually, the water droplets fell from the cloud which was seen as the food coloring fell slowly from the shaving cream into the cup below it. Some even noticed how the larger clouds took many more droplets to simulate the rain! We also talked about types of clouds and the students then illustrated them.
On top of being artists and scientists, students also became chefs during our third grade cooking time! As a class, we made strawberry ice cream sandwiches using fresh strawberries, cool whip, and yogurt. After mixing our ingredients together, we put them in between graham crackers and froze them over the weekend and ate them during the week!
Be sure to check back next week to find out more about all of the learning that is taking place in our exciting third grade classroom!
