This week's theme at BASE was CrEePy CrAwLeRs! In third grade, we learned about different types of insects, focusing on ants. Did you know that an ant can lift up to 20 TIMES its own body weight!? Also, unlike us, ants don't have lungs...they breathe through tiny holes all over their body. Lastly, an ant can live up to 30 years! Crazy to think about!
For projects, we broke up into two groups: a 3D group and a 2D group. Those of us working in the 3D world learned about the different parts and characteristics of an insect, such as the head, thorax, and abdomen. We then got to build our own 3D insects using Legos and K'nex including at least three characteristics that we learned about. Check out how creative we got with building our insects below!
In the 2D group, we got creative when thinking about the underground world of ants. We brainstormed ideas of what ants might do underground and what their "homes" might look like. From swimming pools to bedrooms, and from coffee shops to sports arenas...students thought of every possible place/thing to include in their ant's underground world.
During gym time, third grade had the chance to try out the new volleyball net! And lastly, students continued with their clubs on Thursday and Friday, including Art, Gym, Glue Glue and More Glue, and 3D Building.
Be sure to check back next week to see our Halloween/Day of the Dead projects...last week in October!
